Jerry has practiced labor and employment law for more than twenty years. He is the Practice Area Leader for Smith Moore's Labor & Employment Group and represents employers in all aspects of employment law, including litigation before state and federal courts and agencies in the areas of federal and state EEO laws, civil right states, FMLA, ADA, personnel practices, wrongful discharge, and safety matters under OSHA. He has represented private and public sector employers throughout the United Sates in union avoidance campaigns, defending unfair labor practice cases, collective bargaining negotiations, and arbitration matters.
His career has earned him numerous awards and recognition. In 2003, in Business North Carolina magazine, Jerry was named as one of North Carolina's Legal Elite and voted the best labor and employment attorney in the state by his peers. He is in the 2004 North Carolina Legal Elite's Hall of Fame, was selected as a North Carolina Super Lawyer for both 2006 and 2007 by Law & Politics magazine for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement, and is also published in the America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals for having demonstrated leadership and dedication in his profession.
Jerry is the current Director of Legislative Affairs for RWHRMA, serves on the Board of Trustees of Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, and is on the Board of Trustees of the Triangle United Way.
